A wise man once said, "success is born when opportunity meets with preparation" Finding opportunities in life is not a gift, neither is it an heritage of a chosen few. It is a learned skill.
People complain, give excuses and search for someone else to blame for their predicaments and failures, without understanding that, opportunities not prepared for, would not be easily identified and maximized.
It must be clearly and critically understood that, everyone has equal chances for opportunities in life. You may not agree with me, but we have recorded success stories globally who started from "nothing" but ended up becoming "something" in our world.
The likes of Colonel Sanders; who started life all over again at the age of 65, after failing for about 1009 times. Abraham, the reputed father of all nations had his transformation at the age of 75; born from an idolatrous background and suffered many years of setbacks in childbearing.
What about Jesus the Savior of the human race, who was born from a village that no one ever became great, ended up becoming the Messiah of the world. And several others with similar situation and experience, but just to mention a few.
Therefore, no one have reasons to complain nor to give excuses. Everyone must deliberately accept responsibility for his or her life.
Let me share some few thoughts on how to recognize opportunities:
1. Build service experience: nothing comes to fruition instantaneously, but follows a definite process. This is the crucible where preparation is born.
2. Develop the attitude of ownership: this means putting your life in your hands and understanding that whatever the outcome of your life may be, you are responsible.
3. Enquiry mind: Until you are willing to ask the right questions you may never build capacity for generating strategic ideas. This also describes, positioning your mind through observation, listening, reading and mind storming.
4. Value excellence: mediocrity shuts a man's mind against strategic ideas. Think excellence to attract new resources for new opportunities.
5. Focus on process: when reward becomes a man's priority, he would lose sight of quality, thereby missing out of the real action.
6. Detest tradition: you must learn the art of thinking differently or what is predominantly termed, "thinking out of the box."
7. Place priority on people: people are opportunities in disguise. The more you add value to others and make life better for them, the more you experience new favors for new opportunities.
8. Develop new skills: training and development enhances finding how things could be done more efficiently. New insights for new opportunities.
9. Associate with the right people: people are opportunities in disguise. A disconnection from the right sets of people could keep you at bay from the right opportunities.
10. Surf the web creatively: be innovative in your search on the Internet. Do not limit yourself to social networks, but be constructive and deliberate about your search in areas of your passion, purpose and potential.
Conclusively, opportunity abounds everywhere! Thank you for your time. God bless you. I remain your friend and strategist.
